The ideals and principles set out in this Code provide a common framework of professional responsibility that reaffirms our commitment to the core values of our field. The Code publicly acknowledges the responsibilities we have assumed in this area and thus supports ethical behaviour in our work. Practitioners faced with situations with ethical dimensions are invited to seek advice in the applicable parts of this Code and in the spirit behind the whole. Over the years, we have held workshops and courses on professional ethics, we have found that early childhood educators do not always know the difference between an ethical responsibility and an ethical dilemma, nor do they know how to approach them. To clarify this distinction, we decided to use this March 2016 column to explore these two types of ethical questions. Working in a daycare means regular contact with a large number of children. Accidents happen every day, so remember to eliminate dangerous scenes before someone is injured. P-4-12-If we have evidence that an agency providing services for the well-being of children is not meeting its obligations, we recognize a collective ethical responsibility to report the problem to the appropriate authorities or the public. We will be vigilant until the situation is resolved. Ideals reflect the aspirations of practitioners. Principles guide behaviour and help practitioners resolve ethical dilemmas.2 Ideals and principles are designed to guide practitioners to questions that, if answered responsibly, can form the basis for conscientious decision-making. While the Code provides specific guidance for addressing some ethical dilemmas, many others will require the practitioner to combine the guidelines of the Code with professional judgment.

I-2.9 Participate in the establishment of family support networks by providing opportunities to interact with program staff, other families, community resources and professional services. In a caring and cooperative workplace, human dignity is respected, job satisfaction is encouraged, and positive relationships are developed and maintained. Based on our core values, our primary responsibility to our colleagues is to establish and maintain attitudes and relationships that support productive work and meet professional needs. The same ideals that apply to children also apply to relationships with adults in the workplace. We do not have time to sit down. Being effective is a great personal quality that needs to be developed. If you find that a situation involves ethics and you don`t believe it`s a responsibility, it`s probably an ethical dilemma. A dilemma is a situation for which there are two possible solutions, each of which can be morally justified. A dilemma requires a person to choose between two actions, each with benefits but also costs.

In a dilemma, the legitimate needs and interests of one individual or group must give way to those of another individual or group – hence the commonly used phrase “on the horns of a dilemma”, which describes the dual nature of these situations.
